One of the largest Nepal based conglomerate, Vishal Group got involved in a controversy just a couple of months back. The controversy aroused when expired food products which include chocolates, chips and biscuits were found in the market of Nepal and their expiry or best before dates were relabelled.
But how did Vishal Group got involved in the controversy? Well, they were just responsible for the import of those food products. But does it really mean that they are involved in the food relabelling scam?
Vishal Group holds a huge reputation in Nepal for being one of the largest contributors of the economy and for being one of the highest taxpayers of Nepal for several years. Like, during the Covid-19 pandemic when the entire national went under lockdown as per the rules laid by the government, Vishal group donated a sum of Rs 1 crore to the government and distributed masks, sanitizers and other medical supplies to many hospitals across Nepal. The group also took the initiative of distributing sanitary napkins worth Rs 1 crore with the aim of promoting basic health and hygiene among women.
The Vice-President of Vishal Group, Mr. Tulsi Ram Agrawal was also awarded the prestigious Prabal Jansewa Shree Award by the Government of Nepal for his social contribution towards the economy of the country.
It feels unbelievable that a conglomerate like Vishal Group which has made selfless contributions and donations for the betterment of the economy would be involved in the scam. There are many people in the country who are in support of Vishal group due to its reputation.
However, Vishal Group has denied all the allegations and said that have no clue and co connection with what people is now calling ‘Vishal group relabelling scam’
